SUMMARY:Shawl – Recipes and Riffs – Session 2
DESCRIPTION:Shawl Recipes – Recipes and Riffs – a look at basic shawl shapes and how to knit them – Session 2\nInstructor: Winn Archambeau-Muñoz \nSaturday\, September 25th;  9:00am – 12:00pm \nHave you ever seen the most gorgeous yarn and just wanted to start working with it right away?  Were you worried that you did not know how to go about it? In this class we will explore  fundamental shawl shapes and recipes to make them:  rectangles\, squares\, triangles\, crescents\, circles\, and semicircles. Then we will see how changing numbers and placements of increases can transform basic shapes into interesting and original pieces. \nWe will make mini samples of selected ones so that you will have experience and an example of the transformations. This will allow you to select the design you want and make your own shawl. Yardage and stitch numbers for your original will be determined based on your selections. \nLevel: Must be comfortable knitting\, purling\, and casting on. \nMaterials: About 50 yards of DK or worsted weight yarn and appropriate needles for your yarn\, stitch markers\, pencil\, paper and usual knitting supplies. \nNote: 10% off materials and supplies \nCost: $70 for 2 sessions

SUMMARY:Toe-Up Sock Basics - Session 2
DESCRIPTION:Toe-Up Sock Basics – Session 2\nInstructor: Winn Archambeau-Muñoz \nTuesday\, August 17th;  1:00pm – 2:30pm \nToe-Up Sock Basics – is designed to teach you the basics of making a sock beginning at the toe using a worsted weight (No 4)\, 5 stitches- to- the- inch yarn. For needles use a US 7 or 8 and choose your favorite method for working a small circumference in the round (double pointed needles\, 24 in circular needle for magic loop\, Flexi Flips or 2 circular needles). \nWe will make a single miniature toe-up sock that you can use as your model. We will cover Judy’s Magic Cast-on\, increases\, decreases\, making a gusset\, short-row heels\, heel flaps\, and stretchy bind offs. This one sock will be a small version of what a regular sock would look like and use all the skills necessary for a full-size toe-up sock. The class includes a follow-up session to help you trouble shoot and plan or begin your actual sock project. Socks make a super great summer or travel knitting project because they are easily carried\, can get you started on your holiday gift list and can be as simple or as complex as you like. \nLevel: must be able to knit and purl and be comfortable knitting in the round. \nMaterials: 50 yards of worsted weight yarn\, your choice of needles (US 7 or 8) for working in the round\, scissors\, 2 different color stitch markers\, pen\, pencil\, eraser\, post-it notes\, and general knitting supplies. \nNote: 10% off materials and supplies \nCost: $50 for 2 sessions

SUMMARY:Easy Breezy Brioche 2-Color Cowl in the Round-Session 2
DESCRIPTION:Easy Breezy Brioche 2-Color Cowl in the Round – a super relaxed introduction to brioche knitting in the round! – Session 2\nInstructor: Winn Archambeau-Muñoz \nThursday\, August 5th;  1:00pm – 2:30pm \nSo many patterns call for the Brioche stitch and some instructions make it seem overly complicated. After teaching brioche many times\, I wanted to create an extremely easy project that would ensure a successful start to knitting brioche and offer a lovely cushy cowl as a final product. \nWe will learn to do the brioche knit and the brioche purl stitches as well as the basic techniques on a practice piece (started prior to class) using about 50 yards each of 2 quite different smooth worsted weight yarns (can be from your stash).  Next\, we will translate these skills to a cowl using the yarn of your choice Yardage amounts and pattern will be given for the final cowls based on the chosen yarn. \nLevel: Must be able to knit and purl and be familiar with knitting in the round. \nMaterials: 50 yards each of 2 strongly contrasting colors of smooth worsted weight yarn and appropriate needles for the practice section. For the actual cowl you may choose any weight yarn and the appropriate size needles. You will need approximately 150 yards of each color for the actual cowl. Be sure to choose contrasting colors. \nTools: US 7 16 in circular needle for practice\, 24 in circular needle for the actual cowl in the size appropriate to the yarn\, a tapestry needle\, a crochet hook\, a pair of needles several sizes smaller than the for the yarn (US size 3 or 4)\, dental floss\, stitch markers – locking stitch markers and the slip on kind\, and regular knitting supplies. \nHomework: With a US 7 or US 8 16 in circular needle cast on 61 stitches with your main color worsted weight scrap yarn.  Join in the round carefully by slipping the last st over the first stt (60 sts). Purl 1 round\, Knit 1 round. Repeat these 2 rounds 2 more times. (3 ridges of garter stitch). Leave the sts on the needle ready to begin the set-up round in class. Be sure and have 2 very contrasting colors. \nNote: 10% off materials and supplies \nCost: $50 for 2 sessions

SUMMARY:To Fix or not to Fix
DESCRIPTION:To Fix or not to Fix – or how to read your knitting & recognize mistakes & what to do about them!\nInstructor: Winn Archambeau-Muñoz \nSaturday\, July 24th;  9:00am – 12:00pm \nHave you ever.. pulled out all your knitting because you found something wrong back at the beginning? ….said\, “But I did exactly what the pattern said”…….wondered\, “How did that happen?” ………….and said\, “What should I do?” \nHere is the class that will help you with all these questions. \nIt is a myth to believe that experienced knitters never make mistakes. In fact\, the more experienced knitter you are\, the more elaborate mistakes you can make. What long-time knitters have learned is how to recognize their mistakes and what tools to use to fix the mistakes (or NOT to fix them). \nCome join us for a session to learn about stitch level and pattern level mistakes\, how to recognize them\, and what to do about them.  Some “oops” we will cover include dropped stitches\, yarn overs\, too few stitches\, too many stitches\, twisted stitches\, direction changes\, pattern reading\, dropped cable stitches\, lifelines and more. Come and learn to fix or not to fix. \nLevel: Must be able to knit and purl. \nTools: A crochet hook/fix-it tool\, yarn\, and appropriate size needles (worsted weight best with US size 7 or 8)\, curved tapestry needle\, a pair of needles several sizes smaller than the ones for the yarn (US size 3 or 4)\, dental floss\, stitch markers – locking stitch markers variety and the slip-on kind and general knitting supplies. \nHomework: Cast on 26 stitches and knit 3 rows of garter stitch.(Knit only). Then: Row 4 – Knit all sts; Row 5 – Knit 5 sts\, Purl 16\, K 5; Row 6 K26. Repeat rows 5 and 6 ten times. Leave work in active mode on your needles. \nNote: 10% off materials and supplies \nCost: $35 for 1 session

SUMMARY:Easy Entrelac
DESCRIPTION:Introduction to Interlace Knitting\nInstructor: Winn Archambeau-Muñoz \nThursday\, November 14th; 10:00am-2:00pm \nHave you ever admired the seemingly woven textured of entrelac knitting and thought\, “I could never do that!”? If you can knit and purl\, you CAN DO entrelac.  Just by working on a small number of stitches at a time we will create the slanted rectangles that deceive the eye.  This is a technique that is much easier to learn by doing than reading! \nIn this class we will learn how to make an entrelac swatch of a base of 3 triangles\, several rows of right side and wrong side rectangles which can be continued to be knit into a cow (or other rectangular pattern). Other techniques (including picking up stitches\, increasing stitches and decreasing on the purl and knit side\, even knitting backwards!) will be demonstrated as needed. \nLevel:  knitters must be able to knit\, purl\, and cast on. \nMaterials: 2 skeins worsted weight smooth yarn – preferably very different colors\, Size US 7 or 8 needle\, basic knitting supplies. \nNote: 10% off materials and supplies \nCost: $35

SUMMARY:Simple Summer Tee
DESCRIPTION:Simple Summer Tee\nInstructor: Winn Archambeau-Muñoz \nThursday\, October 23rd; 10:00am-2:00pm \nSummer is a great time to make a cool tee that has an airy design and is made in a lovely light-weight yarn that knits up quickly. You can choose to make it short or tunic length. Because it is knit in the round after the top is done\, you can try it on to make your tee fit you perfectly. The design is for a boxy lace top that is knit to the width of your hips. You will have a variety of 6-8 open stitches to combine in your own design. In this class we map out the pattern to fit your size\, practice the designs you select\, and you leave with your top planned and started! Come in early if you want to select your yarn. We will be making a dropped shoulder tee with interesting patterns that include twisted dropped stitch and others that are easily memorized and work up quickly. \nLevel: must be able to: knit and purl\, cast-on and bind-off; increase and decrease and knit in the round. \nTools: 600 – 1\,000 yards depending on the weight of yarn you choose and how long you want to make it. DK or worsted would be fine.  Consider cotton or linen for summer or wool if it is for winter. (See me before class.)  Appropriate needles for your yarn\, stitch holders\, stitch markers (locking and ring)\, crochet hook\, tapestry needle\, scissors\, waste yarn for lifelines\, row marker and regular knitting supplies. \nHomework: Bring your yarn for the tee and enough yarn to work the patterns for the gauge swatch. \nNote: 10% off materials and supplies for class \nCost: $35 single session

SUMMARY:Simple Summer Tee
DESCRIPTION:Simple Summer Tee\nInstructor: Winn Archambeau-Muñoz \nTuesday\, October 22nd; 9:00am-1:00pm \nSummer is a great time to make a cool tee that has an airy design and is made in a lovely light-weight yarn that knits up quickly.
